The race for the Orange and Purple Caps in the Indian Premier League 2026 season witnessed significant shifts following an action-packed Sunday featuring clashes between Lucknow Super Giants vs Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Patidar Surges in Orange Cap Standings
Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar has emerged as one of the standout performers this season. Continuing his impressive form, Patidar smashed a blistering 53 off just 20 balls against Mumbai Indians. This marked his second half-century of the season and his fourth impactful innings in as many matches.
With scores of 31, 48* , 63, and 53, Patidar has now accumulated 195 runs, propelling him to second place in the Orange Cap standings. He currently trails only Vaibhav Sooryavanshi of Rajasthan Royals, who leads the run charts.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Heinrich Klaasen sits just behind Patidar, while Sooryavanshi’s opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal holds fourth position. Close on his heels is RCB stalwart Virat Kohli, who climbed to fifth after scoring 50, adding to his consistent run of 69*, 28, and 32.
Prasidh Krishna Reclaims Purple Cap
On the bowling front, Prasidh Krishna has surged to the top of the Purple Cap leaderboard. The Gujarat Titans pacer, who was also last season’s leading wicket-taker, delivered a match-winning spell of 4/28 against Lucknow Super Giants.
This performance took Krishna’s tally to 10 wickets from just four matches, putting him ahead of Rajasthan Royals spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who has claimed nine wickets so far.
Chennai Super Kings’ Anshul Kamboj currently occupies third place, while Prince Yadav of Lucknow Super Giants and RCB’s Jacob Duffy are tied in fourth with six wickets each.
Tight Contests Ahead
With the tournament gaining momentum, both the Orange and Purple Cap races are shaping up to be fiercely competitive. Consistent performances in the coming matches will be crucial as players vie for individual glory alongside team success.
