Samson Climbs to No. 3 as Kamboj Reclaims Purple Cap After CSK’s Dominant Win

A commanding 103-run victory for Chennai Super Kings over Mumbai Indians on Thursday has shaken up both the Orange and Purple Cap leaderboards in IPL 2026.

One of the biggest gainers is Sanju Samson, who surged to No. 3 on the Orange Cap table. Samson’s season has been a mix of brilliance and inconsistency—he has now amassed 293 runs, powered largely by two centuries and a 48, while his remaining innings have yielded only single-digit scores. Despite his rise, the top two spots remain firmly held by the Sunrisers Hyderabad duo. Abhishek Sharma leads with 323 runs, closely followed by Heinrich Klaasen with 320.

The race is far from settled, with more reshuffling expected. Shubman Gill currently sits fourth with 265 runs, while Virat Kohli (247 runs) and Rajat Patidar (230 runs) remain within striking distance. All eyes now turn to the upcoming clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans, which could trigger further changes in the standings.

On the bowling front, Anshul Kamboj has reclaimed the Purple Cap. His economical spell of 1 for 10 against Mumbai, including the dismissal of Shardul Thakur, took his tally to 14 wickets, putting him ahead of the competition. Prince Yadav of Lucknow Super Giants, who had briefly drawn level, now trails with 13 wickets.

Close behind are Eshan Malinga and Prasidh Krishna, each with 12 wickets. Krishna will have an immediate opportunity to climb the rankings when Gujarat Titans face RCB.

With both batting and bowling charts tightening, IPL 2026 continues to deliver intense competition as the race for individual honors heats up alongside the battle for team supremacy.
