Trent Rockets Go Top of Women's Hundred Table as Sophia Dunkley Powers Win Over Birmingham Phoenix

Nottingham: Trent Rockets continued their impressive run in The Hundred Women's competition with a commanding six-wicket victory over Birmingham Phoenix at Trent Bridge, securing their fourth consecutive win and climbing to the top of the standings.

Sophia Dunkley produced another outstanding batting display, scoring a match-winning 65 off just 37 deliveries to guide the Rockets to 124 for 4 in pursuit of Birmingham's modest total of 122 for 7. Her innings, packed with elegant stroke play and powerful hitting, further strengthened her position as the tournament's leading run-scorer while also making her the all-time leading run-getter in the women's Hundred.

Dunkley dominated the chase from the outset, mixing clever placement with aggressive shot-making. She reached her half-century in just 26 balls, highlighted by two towering sixes off leg-spinner Alana King. Even after Trent Rockets lost Nat Sciver-Brunt (24) and Ash Gardner in consecutive deliveries with the score on 82, Dunkley maintained control of the innings.

Her innings ended on 65 when she was caught at deep midwicket attempting to clear the boundary off Alice Capsey, but by then the Rockets were firmly in command. Sophie Luff finished the chase in style with a quick burst of boundaries as Trent Rockets reached the target with 16 balls remaining.

Earlier, Birmingham Phoenix endured another difficult outing with the bat. Davina Perrin provided a positive start with 18 before mistiming Kim Garth to mid-on. The innings quickly lost momentum as Alice Capsey was bowled for 1, captain Ellyse Perry was stumped after overbalancing against Ash Gardner, and Tammy Beaumont was run out following a brilliant direct throw from Dunkley, leaving Phoenix struggling at 55 for 4.

Emma Lamb, making her first appearance of the tournament, anchored the innings with a composed 45, while Annerie Dercksen added valuable support in a 45-run partnership. However, both batters fell to Kim Garth, who delivered an excellent spell of 4 for 23 to restrict Birmingham to a below-par total.

Chasing 123, Trent Rockets' strong batting lineup ensured there were few alarms as they comfortably overhauled the target. The victory extends their winning streak to four matches and reinforces their credentials as title contenders.

For Birmingham Phoenix, the defeat was their third in five matches, leaving their hopes of reaching the knockout stage hanging by a thread.

After being named the Meerkat Match Hero, Dunkley credited the team's fearless approach to batting.

"I just try to go out and play with freedom. Having such a strong batting line-up gives us a lot of belief, and it's nice to go out there and express myself," she said.

"We're very brave with the bat and keep taking the game on. That aggression has worked well for us, and the bowlers have been excellent too. It was another really good all-round performance."
