Rashid Khan's Five-Wicket Haul Powers MI London to Dominant Victory Over Manchester Super Giants

Rashid Khan produced a match-winning spell of spin bowling after explosive half-centuries from Will Jacks and Nicholas Pooran helped MI London register a commanding 45-run victory over Manchester Super Giants in The Hundred at the Kia Oval.

The comprehensive win lifted MI London to second place in the standings, while Rashid capped off his final appearance before joining Afghanistan for their upcoming ODI series in Ireland with a memorable maiden five-wicket haul in the competition.

The Afghan leg-spinner returned remarkable figures of 5 for 17, dismantling Manchester Super Giants' middle order after MI London had posted their highest total of the season, 183 for 6.

Reflecting on his performance, Rashid admitted the wickets came at the right time after a relatively quiet tournament.

"I needed those wickets. It hasn't been my best tournament, but I focused on keeping things simple and bowling in the right areas. Having runs on the board always helps, but consistency is the key," Rashid said.

He also confirmed that international duty remains his immediate priority as he prepares to join Afghanistan's squad for the Ireland series, although he could return if MI London qualify for The Hundred final on August 16.

Earlier, MI London made full use of favorable batting conditions after being sent in to bat. Opener Will Jacks launched a blistering assault during the powerplay, striking four sixes on his way to a 31-ball 62. His aggressive innings helped the hosts race to their best powerplay score of the season.

Nicholas Pooran maintained the momentum after arriving at the crease, attacking from the outset with a series of clean strikes. The left-hander shared a rapid 44-run partnership with Sam Curran before continuing his assault to reach a 25-ball half-century. Pooran eventually departed for 54 off 28 deliveries, while Josh Tongue emerged as the standout bowler for Manchester Super Giants with figures of 2 for 13.

Chasing 184, Manchester Super Giants began brightly thanks to captain Aiden Markram, who counterattacked with an explosive 50 from just 25 balls. His aggressive approach powered the visitors to 55 without loss during the powerplay, briefly raising hopes of a successful chase.

However, Rashid changed the course of the match by removing Tim Seifert and Jos Buttler in quick succession. Buttler's dismissal, courtesy of a sharp boundary catch by Nathan Sowter, proved to be a major turning point.

Markram's departure soon after his half-century left the Super Giants with a steep task, and Rashid tightened his grip on the contest by dismissing Heinrich Klaasen and Tom Moores in consecutive deliveries. Liam Dawson became the fifth victim of the Afghan spinner, completing his maiden five-wicket haul in The Hundred.

With their middle order dismantled, Manchester Super Giants never recovered and were bowled out for 138, falling 45 runs short of the target.

Despite the defeat, Manchester Super Giants remain in contention for a place in The Hundred Eliminator, while MI London strengthened their playoff hopes with an emphatic all-round performance.
